• Philosophy (Minor)

  • Overview

    The Philosophy minor is offered through Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts.

    Students are introduced to philosophical traditions, approaches, questions, and ways of thinking. Learn more about the Philosophy program.

    Curriculum

    The minor in Philosophy requires completion of a minimum of 18 credits, outlined as follows:

    • LPHI 2010 Philosophy 1: Ancient (3–4 credits)
    • LPHI 2020 Philosophy 2: Modern (3–4 credits)
    • 3 additional philosophy courses. Of these, all must be 3000 level or higher. Only one can be a cross-listed course or another course taken outside the concentration; this course must be approved by the chair. (12 credits)

    Total credits: 18–20

    Students must receive a grade of C or better in all courses to fulfill the minor. See the university course catalog for fall 2024 philosophy courses that fulfill these requirements.

    Eligibility

    Minors are available to undergraduate students across The New School. Please meet with your Student Success advisor to discuss how a minor will fit in with your overall degree requirements. Undergraduates

To apply to any of our undergraduate programs (except the Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students and Parsons Associate of Applied Science programs) complete and submit the Common App online.

Undergraduate Adult Learners

To apply to any of our Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students and Parsons Associate of Applied Science programs, complete and submit the New School Online Application.

Graduates

To apply to any of our Master's, Doctoral, Professional Studies Diploma, and Graduate Certificate programs, complete and submit the New School Online Application.
