The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is awarded for completion of 120 credits as designated by the program. A maximum of 60 credits may be transferred from another institution. Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and fulfill all requirements in a timely manner.
Your BFA begins with the Parsons Paris first-year curriculum, a year-long interdisciplinary course of study for students in all undergraduate programs at Parsons Paris. In the first year you engage in exploration of art and design concepts, skills, and critical practices, learning to be a flexible thinker, proficient maker, and bold experimenter. You also have a chance to take a program-specific elective during your first year.
In year two, you focus on narrative, editing skills, and the use of varied media for 2D, 3D, and 4D experimentation. In your third year, you explore the reception of your creative expression through an analysis of audience, participation, and human response. You also have the option of spending a semester or a year in a related major at Parsons’ New York campus or at other higher education institutions around the world. In your fourth-year final thesis project, you integrate research, making, and writing. A new course called Pro Launch Studio prepares you for professional practice.
Throughout your studies, art and design history and theory courses develop essential research, writing, and critical reasoning skills as well as the conceptual foundations for creative inquiry. Most of your courses are taught at the St. Roch campus.
