Mannes Prep combines a warm and supportive atmosphere with thorough pre-professional training. Our continuing personal interest in the musical growth of each student is central to the spirit of Mannes.
Mannes Prep welcomes students ages 4-18 (pre-K through high school), from beginners through advanced students aspiring to professional careers. Each student's curriculum is individually tailored to include age- and level-appropriate
class and ensemble assignments. Under the direction of a faculty dedicated to creating a supportive community, students learn to encourage one another to reach their full potential.
Our course of study, designed as a full school year (fall and spring terms), is built on three key elements:
- Private lessons with our distinguished faculty
- Theory and ear training classes that mirror Mannes’ signature approach to foundational skill development through its Techniques of Music Department
- Performance opportunities in large ensembles (orchestra, chorus, jazz ensemble, Brazilian percussion ensemble), small ensembles, workshops, and recitals
Students also have the opportunity to pursue exciting electives including chamber music, composition, film scoring, electronic music, conducting, music history, world music, jazz ensemble, and more.
Mannes Prep’s approach to music reflects the curriculum of its celebrated home—Mannes School of Music at The New School—with more than one hundred years of developing talent and supporting innovation.
