  • Virtual Tour

  • In the Capitalism Studies minor, you develop interdisciplinary analytical approaches to evolving socioeconomic phenomena, and investigate how capitalism informs political, technological, and creative activity in the modern world. You examine capitalism's basic logic, its various expressions throughout history, and its relationship to economics, policy, ethics, culture, media, and the visual arts.

    • Study Options Minor

Capitalism Studies courses provide a basic understanding of economic concepts and reflect critically on international economic phenomena ranging from the industrialization and urbanization of China and India to the financialization of the United States and the Eurozone. By offering a variety of courses culled from across the university, the minor provides an interdisciplinary perspective on the study of capitalism.

You gain basic economic and financial literacy, acquire insights into global capitalism and current political debates. Through collaboration with faculty and classmates, you work to diagnose and consider solutions to contemporary economic problems including racialized economic inequality and possibilities for dismantling it; the nature of citizenship and the state under global capitalism; the trade-offs between innovation and employment; and the ecological limits to economic growth. Consult our 4-Year Lang Career Pathways Map (PDF) for helpful steps and resources to link your academic journey to your future plans.
