• It's important for you, as an F-1 student or J-1 exchange visitor in the United States, to understand the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax requirements and filing obligations for tax years in which you are present in the United States. A tax year is the same as a calendar year (January 1–December 31). The type of paperwork that must be completed along with any tax payment that is owed depends on income earned and status as a non-resident or resident for tax purposes.

    Tax Resources

ISSS has partnered with Sprintax tax service to provide international students and scholars with assistance and resources to complete the correct tax forms.

ISSS sent a code and instructions to your New School email account on February 3, 2023—look for the subject line "Filing 2022 Tax Forms." The code will cover the cost of filing your federal tax return and Form 8843.

You can visit Sprintax to review its numerous resources, such as FAQs, blogs, and YouTube channel videos. You can also have questions answered through Sprintax's chat function or request a live phone call. Please note: ISSS staff are not qualified to answer tax-related questions, and we ask that you direct all questions to Sprintax.

ISSS has also scheduled tax webinars, which are listed in our ISSS Newsletter and on our Instagram page.
