Understanding Your Cost of Attendance
The Cost of Attendance is an estimate of the total costs incurred by a typical student attending The New School full-time and living in New York City for one academic year. The Cost of Attendance is not a bill. It includes billable costs charged to the
student by the university, such as tuition, fees, and on-campus housing, as well as estimated non-billable expenses incurred by the student, like books and supplies, personal expenses,
food, and off-campus housing. The Cost of Attendance is published for financial planning and financial aid purposes. Our estimates are based on student surveys and information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Estimated Cost of Attendance
As shown below, the Cost of Attendance at The New School is an estimate of the total costs incurred by a typical student who attends full-time for the fall and spring semesters and lives in New York City.
- Tuition: The direct cost of taking classes, billed by the Office of Student Accounts.
- Fees: Costs associated with enrolling at The New School. General fees are charged to all students; specific fees are associated with particular majors.
- Loan Fees: If you take out a Federal Direct Loan, your Cost of Attendance will include your loan origination fees. You can read more about federal loan fees here.
- Living Expenses (Food and Housing): The average cost of living expenses and food on or off campus. On-campus housing and meal plans are billed by The New School's Office of Student Accounts; off-campus housing and food are not.
