• No, if you are only seeking merit-based scholarships. All students are automatically considered for applicable scholarships and grants as part of the admission process.

• Yes, if you are an international student admitted to the Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students and are seeking need-based aid. File the International Student Aid Application.

You will be notified about any merit scholarships you have been awarded shortly after you receive your acceptance. You can check your financial aid status at MyNewSchool. Full financial aid packages are sent five to seven business days after acceptance. If you have not received your award letter in this time, you may have unmet financial aid requirements; check MyNewSchool.

If you are eligible to file the FAFSA, the timing of your award letter may depend on when you filed.

If you are a continuing student, you will receive your financial aid package after the spring semester.

The Cost of Attendance is an estimate of the total costs incurred by a typical student in your program who is living in New York. It includes billable costs like tuition, mandatory fees and on-campus housing, as well as estimates of non-billable expenses such as books, supplies, personal expenses, food and off-campus housing. Please note that tuition, fees, and housing costs may vary by academic program and housing assignment.

Your housing status does not affect your scholarships or grants, but it may affect your Cost of Attendance. If you intend to live in on-campus housing, the housing component of your Cost of Attendance will be adjusted once you receive your assignment and the charges are placed on your account. This is relevant primarily for students who intend to fund their education with student loans, as the Cost of Attendance is used in the determination of maximum supplemental loan borrowing eligibility. Please speak with a financial aid counselor if you have questions about your housing budget.

Financial aid awards are not negotiable. If your award package does not cover your expenses, speak with a financial aid counselor about your funding options, including external scholarships and grants, PLUS loans, and private loans, which may be available up to the estimated Cost of Attendance for your program.

The New School also has monthly payment plans, which enable students and families to spread tuition and housing payments over the semester.

The Office of Financial Aid will notify you by email sent to your New School account when your financial aid has been posted. You can view your financial aid award online anytime through MyNewSchool.

The FAFSA must be submitted annually. The Office of Financial Aid sends out regular reminders, but it is your responsibility to submit a new FAFSA before the deadline. You must also re-apply for any credit-approved loans each year, including federal PLUS loans and private loans.

You do not have to re-apply for merit-based scholarships from the university.

Merit awards are final at the time of admission; they are based on your application and do not increase. They are automatically renewed at the same level each year, as long as you are making progress toward completing your degree and are meeting the enrollment and academic requirements of your department.
