• The New School dining program prides itself on serving chef-created, diverse, healthful foods. Its mission is to provide real farm-to-table food that promotes the health of our students, community, and planet. You can read more about our dining program by visiting the New School Dining website.

Given the great diversity of tastes, cultures, and class schedules, New School students' eating patterns generally do not fit the traditional meal plan model that encourages eating a full meal on campus at set intervals three times a day. That’s why we’ve implemented flexible dining plans with the use of a pre-paid declining-balance card. There are two on-campus locations:

    • The University Center, which offers a wide variety of options, including contemporary vegan and vegetarian cuisine, sushi made to order, daily rotating specials of our chef’s plates, and the comfort foods our students crave
    • Café New, a newly opened location at Lang for grab-and-go foods

View our menus to see the selection, and then read more about our plans to see which one is right for you.

Any money left in your Dining Dollars and Dining Dollars Plus accounts at the end of the fall semester will roll forward to the spring semester, but balances remaining at the end of the spring semester are forfeited.

Off-campus students can enjoy the benefits of having a dining plan by simply opting in to one of the available packages. Elect to opt in, participate in an alternative plan, or opt out entirely by using the Change Your Dining Plan option, located in my.newschool.edu in the Student Resources section.

    On-Campus Resident Auto Enrollment

First-year undergraduate students living in on-campus housing will have a mandatory dining plan for the entire academic year/first two semesters living on campus and will be automatically enrolled in the Two plan. First-year undergraduate students can opt to upgrade to the Three plan. Please note: First-year undergraduate students who live on campus are not eligible to enroll in the One or Express plan.

Continuing, transfer, and graduate students who live on campus will also be automatically enrolled in the Two plan but can elect to participate in the One, Three, or Express dining plan or opt out of the dining plan program entirely.

Changing Your Dining Plan or Opting Out

Students can make changes to their dining plan selection after receiving their fall semester bill starting in July and for the spring semester after receiving their spring semester bills starting in December. To change your selection or opt out, visit the Change Your Dining Plan section in my.newschool.edu in the Student Resources section after receiving your fall bill. You are limited to one change or election per semester; the deadline for making changes for the spring 2025 semester is February 03, 2025. Dining plan selection is applicable to the current semester only. Please note: First-year students who live on campus are not eligible to opt out of the dining program.

Requests must be made by October 1 for fall semester exemptions and by February 1 for spring semester exemptions. Exemption requests submitted after these deadlines will not be considered.
